1989 Ford Ranger – Addie H.

Growing up, my dad always had vintage car passion projects happening in our driveway, and it was fascinating watching the transformations. I saw these projects as a reflection of my dad’s creativity, dedication, and extensive mechanical knowledge.
In January 2024, I decided it was time to create a dream car of my own. My dad was immediately on board and together we found a 1989 Ford Ranger 4×4 STX online that needed plenty of work. Since it was a 5-speed manual, I also had to learn how to drive stick shift. We brought the truck home on a tow dolly and over the next eight months, we worked side by side to restore it. Along the way, I learned how to drive it with the help of my dad, as well as friends and family who generously shared their time.
In September 2024, we entered the truck in the 25th annual Fairfax City, Virginia Labor Day Car Show. Needless to say, it was a showstopper. Many attendees commented that they had never seen a Ford Ranger without dings or dents, since these trucks are often used as hardworking utility vehicles. I proudly accepted our trophy for overall “Best Truck,” and the rest is history.
I am incredibly grateful to have a dad who is so passionate, supportive, and eager to share his knowledge. Not only could I not have completed this project without him, but I may never have pursued it in the first place if it weren’t for a childhood spent climbing around, exploring, and admiring his classic cars. This truck represents far more than a restoration project—it is a reflection of the memories, lessons, and love of cars that my dad passed on to me.
