1978 Ford F100 – Adam S.
I was a 16 year high school sophomore in January of 2000, when my dad and I found this 1979 F100 at a local pawn shop in Wichita, Kansas. It was an eye sore with a blue bed, primer gray door, brand new bare front fenders and hood. My dad bought it for me and we drove it home with my mom following close behind. It was a three on the tree, so of course my dad drove it home until he taught me how to drive it. It didn’t take long to get the hang of it. I spent the next year making sure it had oil in the wore out 302 due the rear main leak. During the spring break of my junior year in March of 2001 did and I drove it over 200 miles to my cousin’s shop in Western Kansas to replace the worn out engine. We brought a case of Pennzoil with us and stopped in nearly every little town we drove through to top off the oil from Wichita to Garden City. That summer the 3 speed lost second gear. Dad and I pulled the transmission and rebuilt it in our garage. The column shifter went away and a Hurst floor shifter was installed. We did body work and a sprayed a coat of primer in the driveway. It remain in primer for the next few years until the summer of 2004 when it was painted in the original blue ” S ” code for ’79. Not 3 days after getting out of the paint booth, it entered it’s first car show on Father’s Day at our local zoo. It poured rain on the fresh paint and made it look amazing. Years go by and the truck saw many shows and sat in the garage. Then was given a nice deep cleaning and was the ” getaway ” vehicle for my wedding in the fall of 2022. I’ve owned this old girl for 26 years and hope to have 26 plus more with it.
