1978 Chevrolet K20 – Thomas B

I’ve always been inspired of my dads tales of restoring old square bodies in the ’90s and he always had one. I grew up with a 1983 custom deluxe so my whole life, I always wanted one of my own. When I turned about 14, I really was pushing my dad to get me a square body. Eventually about a year later, we cracked and found a ’78 Chevy K20 that his buddy had bought and repainted the original blue with a bright white stripe down the middle. We brought it home and got straight to work ripping out the original blue interior replacing it with black. We got the seat redone ,new carpet, dash and etc.
Then we got to work on a two inch lift and new white rim 33′ tires. The mechanical work was rough, all the oil was sludge but we got it up to code, new valve covers, fuel pump, tank air filter distributor and much more. We also replaced the hood because it was just much too rusted underneath but it was worth it. Then it came to a finish so we thought it was coming towards my 16 birthday and I started driving the thing much more and then the fuel problems struck. Multiple fuel pumps later eventually ending with an electric one, it was done which leads us to the end of what I have to tell for now. The truck is now my daily and don’t go far but I do take it to our local car so every so often and it’s fun getting to share those experiences with my dad and I’m sure there will be many more to come.
