1973 GMC 1/2 Ton Pickup – Jack H.
1973 GMC pickup purchased brand new in December 1972. This was the first “73” in our area. Jack owned a trucking company and shorty was used as a pilot car in the construction of the third powerhouse at the Grand Coulee Dam.
This pickup also went to Alaska from 1974-1978 and was used as a pilot vehicle on the Alaska pipeline on the haul road. It piloted wide loads. I converted it to a Cadillac front wheel drive and married the GMC frame to the Cadillac frame, engine, and transmission in 1982 and it continues to be one of a kind. I was able to install Cadillac bucket leather seats because the floor no longer had a humped transmission flooring. This pickup currently has 422,000 miles and is still going strong after the third restoration which was just completed this year.
