1964 Chevy C10-Mario V.
My Truck: A 1964, built in Fremont, CA is a fleetside that has seen a lot in the bay area. I got the p/u as a gift to rebuild. First thing I noticed deteriorating was the bedwood flying out the rear. No heater, no air. Just plain 2/90. Plus fresh air coming from the rusted out floor boards. Then we had a sudden move. I had to tear it down to make all house hold items and parts fit in a storage unit. After a couple of years I finally got it to our new home. I parked the frame in the driveway and began the build. So I started a frame off. I upgraded the front end with a 71Bazer 1/2ton with disc brakes and western dropped spindles. The frame got blasted, rear end got rebuilt keeping the 373 posi and placed new bushings on the trailing arms keeping with original. Springs and shocks installed along with a 1″ lowering block. I cut and installed a C notch lowering kit for future lowering,
In 2011 I suffered a whip lash accident on the freeway TWICE in one year. I was barely recovering from the first and got smashed again. Surgery followed in 2013. Down time, sad time, and recovery, somewhat! I was able to get a little help from time to time. But mostly my crawling around placing and removing, and modifying parts has got me to where I am today.
My body has taken just about as much as this truck. I will have power steering, and a new ididit shaft. My engine has new march serpentine pulleys and dressed with a demon dual pump carb and Mallory ignition. Hooker headers and flowmaster pipes and mufflers will allow a sweet sound.
The body has been a search and find parts. I have found most of them thru out the whole bay area junk yards. Many on sale and reasonable in price. I sent most to the blaster and have been doing repairs to rust as I find it. I have the bed sides done and just placed it on the frame. A little premature but necessary to fit the exaust and complete the rear mount 21 gal, fuel tank. Also to have the appearance that I’m making headway. My bed wood has been in storage for years . I prepped to fit and bathed each board in teak oil. Not happy with color I stained the boards with red oak.
My work continues, prepping the cab for interior. I’ll have full power buckets from a 71Mercury. At 32 bucks each, not a bad deal. A B&M floor shifter to the TCI 700R4 tranny with overdrive, and new gauges. It was necessary to build a tranny tunnel for clearance. All piece work. With trial and error.
I’ve run the engine sitting still. I can’t wait to get it out. It sat in storage for years but fired up strong after priming.
I’ll paint my project with an original Chevy color. Using a 69 Corvette Monaco Orange.
