1973 Chevy K10 – Bruce H.
Our 1973 Chevrolet Stepside Pickup was purchased in 1975 at Meyers Chevrolet in Grass Valley, CA. by my Father in law Robert (pictured in the photo). It was his everyday driver to work, home and on the many hunting, fishing and camping trips with my wife, Teraysa and her brother and sister.
In 2005 my wife and I purchased it from him with the intent to keep it in the family, we drove it for about 6 months before it blew a head gasket. With about 2 weeks of work on it when I would get home in the evening, it was back on the road and ran for another 7 years.
In February 2012 cruising up the hill on a chilly evening from a disc golf event that my family and I were hosting in Penn Valley, CA. it spun a rod bearing. Unfortunately, from there it sat for almost 3 years.
In Sept of 2014, we were at a point where we could invest all of our time and money into getting this Stepside on the road again. There is a lot of sentimental value to me and especially my wife. She still tells us the stories of all the fun trips in that truck when she was a kid and I love it, once again we will have many more memories that we can share with our kids and grandkids as time goes on.
Having my youngest son Justice there made this restoration very special to me; I was able to teach him the many difficult tasks that come about when working on vehicles. This is something that will always be a great memory for us.
It took us almost 7 months of work that we did ourselves which included new:
350 Crate Engine install
Rebuilt Trans and Transfer case
Rebuilt drivelines
New Wood Bed, strips and hardware
wheel wells
drivers side fender
re conditioned cab
Things that we had outsourced were:
New Painless wiring kit
New flat Black powder Coating
New crate engine
Hope you have enjoyed our story as much as we have.
