1985 GMC Sierra Classic – Alex M.
| I started out with a running and driving 1985 k2500 that I purchased on a cold rainy day in Jan of 2014 for a small sum of 1600 dollars. from the start to finish of the frame off restoration it took 2 additional parts trucks and countless hours to complete the project. A good friend of mine and I started on the truck in February of 14. we started out disassembling the truck and separating the good parts from the bad. After the truck was torn down to nothing but a frame the hunt for OEM parts pursued. after a few weeks of hunting for parts and cramming Josh’s shop full of parts, the time-consuming art of cutting welding and body work had begun. many weeks went by while working on it almost every night after our 10 hour workday. By this point in time, the hot steamy mosquito infested Illinois summer had arrived. all of the cutting, welding, and body work had been complete by the month of June. The frame was prepared for assembly and all of the mechanical workings from the body down had been replaced. as the month of July quickly encroached upon us the back breaking task of reinstalling the cab and 8 foot bed wasn’t just a dream. After the truck was back together in one piece and the body was stripped down to a shell it was ready to head to the paint shop. Six weeks in the making the truck had been painted and assembly started. a long list of parts from LMC truck had been ordered and I was patiently waiting for arrival to my doorstep. The high quality parts had been all used up by the end of august. as august turned In to September and stout 300hp 5.7 Vortec had been installed and a built 700r4 slapped in with new lift kit/ tires and wheels. Days flew by and eventually by November after the interior and loose ends had been tied up it was ready to hit the road. there were many times over the few months of working on it I wanted to sell it and give up, but I didn’t. if anyone ever gets discouraged during a build just think of the end result and remember all of the hard work you put in it to get it this far. Thank you, LMC for making the parts that make builds like mine possible. |
