1984 Chevy Scottsdale – Mason S.
| Bought the truck for $1500 with a cylinder not running , owner drove the truck on 7 cylinders to my house with one break drum working could barely stop, also had no 3rd gear , all kinds of dirt and wasps nest on the truck but for the most part rust free , came with another grille, a 650 Edelbrock carb, toolbox, CB radio, and brand new exhaust headers and already painted with a automotive primer. Got this truck the summer of 2015 the rest of the summer I spent countless hours of cleaning the under carriage and interior after all it sat for 4 years out side before I bought it , had a mouse nest under the seat that fall got new spark plugs and spark plug wires after that the truck ran on all 8 cylinders, the 454 big block engine came with a quadrojet carb on it and was not in good shape at all with electric choke that was not hooked up so the engine was always running terrible so that winter of 2015 and beginning of 2016 we put the new 650 edlebrock carb on the engine for Months of tuning messing with the mixture screws and checking for vacuum leaks and the timing and got a new distributor cap but no matter what we did could not get the truck to idle and run right we where trying to get the truck running well enough to drive the truck to the auto shop to get new exhaust eventually after saving money and getting it to run right,that July we put the old carb on so it would run and we got it to the auto shop , I decided on putting my new headers on and 2 1/2 inch exhaust and flomaster super 10 mufflers no Cadillac converters sounds very loud deep sound from the big block once we got it home we realized that we have nasty gas going into the carb so one night after school pumping gas out of the tanks the carb cought on fire we put the fire out as soon as we could but luckily did no damage , this last month we dropped the tanks and cleaned them and replaces all fuel lines and sending units in the tanks and my grandfather had a 600 edlebrock carb we put on the truck that made the engine run flawlessly with clean gas , we also figured the 4 wheel drive shifter / transfer case shifter did not match the boot on the floor so we thought we were in two high but we were in four low so once we figured that out it had all three gears as of now the truck is running perfect, I am 14 years old now can’t wait to drive the truck to school next year ! |
