1985 Ford F250-Daniel S.
It all started when my dad bought the truck new in 85 (year I was born). He began customizing it with a 9 inch lift on 40’s and taking it to shows. He named it Obsession. (First pic) By 1987 he was doing bigger indoor shows and winning almost every show he was in. He even build a little powerwheels truck to match for me! Then in 1991, he decided to go bigger, way bigger with 22.5 of lift, dual steer military axles on 44’s. (Second pic) Then he lowered the truck back down to a 9 inch lift in 1994 and sold the truck. It was seen around town a few times and was never seen again……
Fast forward to 2013, me (his son) was messing around on Craigslist and randomly saw an 85 for sale. So I clicked on it. I recognized it for some reason. It had different paint but still same tilt hood, tilt bed, side step, sun roof, corvette scoop on hood. So I called my dad immediately and said you need to check this out. So he did, and he said “99 percent, that’s my old truck!!!”
So I contacted the seller and asked him for the vin number. We had the old payoff note from the truck and we compared the vins… They matched!!! It was his old truck!!! So I purchased the truck which needed A LOT of work. The previous owner found it in a pond and tried to clean it up but ran out of time and energy.
So I brought it home and started the frame off restoration! (Pic 3) The restoration took about a year between my dad and I, and my brother in laws Ford dealer working on it. It was taken down to the frame and built from the ground up. I designed it to emulate the truck in 1987 but with my new spin on it. After many many orders from LMC, and numerous late nights and scarred knuckles, we show it around the Chicagoland area at all the shows he used to do. Including World of Wheels which I just took first place in my class, just like he used to. (4th pic).
There are some weird things that we realized while building this truck that just makes all that time and money worth it like. I was born the same year as the truck, the truck build date is my dad’s Birthday and when my dad bought the truck new he was 28 years old and when I bought the truck used I was 28 years old.
Now we call the truck Obsession 2.0.
Some things are just meant to be.
I have a ton of old and new pictures of the truck if you need more.
Thanks for supplying quality parts which makes these types of stories happen!
