1952 Ford F3 – Bob Jay
The Old Girl – 1952 Ford F3
In the late 1970s, Bob’s dad bought this used 1952 Ford F3. He used the truck with a slide-in camper for travelling and also used it to attend auction sales.
Bob was given the 1952 Ford F3 in 1995 and later sold it to a neighbor in Virden, Manitoba to make some ends meet. In 2009, on a trip back home to Brandon from Regina, Saskatchewan, Bob told his wife that they should go see if the old Ford was still in Virden at his neighbor’s place. The ’52 Ford was still sitting there in the same place and had not moved for 10 years.
A year later, Bob called his old neighbor and eventually a deal was made. Bob paid $1,000 for it and took the truck to Winnipeg, where it sat in his mom’s yard awaiting restoration. Bob’s father had passed away in 1994 so Bob had a decal made for the back window that reads “In loving memory of Howard Jay.”
In 2010, Bob’s brother-in-law, Ernie said he would restore the 1952 Ford F3. In January of 2012 on a very cold day, Bob and his wife drove the Ford back home, but it was only 75% completed. What is normally a two and a half hour drive took them four hours.
The truck has been with the Jays ever since. The work they completed on it once it was home included replacing the wheels, tires, box bed, mirrors, interior and automatic transmission. The old flat head engine still remains strong with 70,000 miles on it.
At Show-n-Shines and “Cruz Nites,” it can be seen very easily due to the color. There are not many like it! Bob and his wife enjoy driving it to go for ice cream.
“My wife, Barb, and I are very proud of ‘The Old Girl.’ Many thanks go to LMC Truck for their help in this project.”
