Ford Bronco – Steve M.

I’ve owned many Broncos in my life, but none have taken me the places this one has. This early Bronco, like many, started from a swap meet around 2001. A guy had several “classics” to sell but when I got there I was only interested in one. I asked, “What’s with the old Bronco on the trailer?” He replied, “That stuff’s going to the crusher.” At that point, I knew it had to be mine! As Patrick Swayze said, “Nobody puts Baby in a corner” (or the crusher in this case).

It was rough but I had plans. The transmission was gone and was removed through the floorboards instead of conventional methods. It had already been butchered/rebuilt several times by previous owners, with parts from all different years of EBs, so chopping up this jewel was not a concern to me.

In 2002, the build began and was “finished” in early 2003. This was meant to be an all-purpose trail rig. I started out with a 302, automatic, lockers, cage and 35″ tires. The maiden voyage was in Moab, Utah. With 62 miles on the odometer, I put it on its left side, tried the obstacle again, and put it on its right side. Most people would be done at this point, but I was hooked!

From there it took me all over the Midwest: Arkansas, Oklahoma, New Mexico, Colorado and Utah several times. After a few trips to high altitude regions, I realized fuel injection was the way to go. I also needed a larger rubber and stepped up to 39s.

In 2012, I decided it was time to again “redo” the Bronco to its current condition.  It’s still taking me on exciting adventures and only the future knows where it will take me next.
