2007 Ford F150 – David K.
I have always loved driving trucks. Pops had a ‘73 Dodge Adventurer that floated like feathers on a light breeze. I had plenty of room for my tall body. I was determined to own one when I was old enough.
My truck ownership started with Old Goldy, a 1973 Dodge Power Wagon 4WD. A bit of an overmatch for pulling a small boat, and at 11 mpg, it was a bit thirsty, but the price was right. Looking for something more economical, my next purchase was a 1980 Ford F100 powered by the bulletproof 300 cu in inline six (OK, 4.9L for those in the metric world). The kids loved climbing around in it and spending time in the longbed under the camper shell. I drove it for 17 years and clocked all 247,000 miles before selling it to my neighbor to purchase (ugh) a minivan to transport family and friends around.
Fast forward to 2012. The kids are out of school by now and I start looking for another truck. I spent two months looking for exactly what I wanted, a used F150 with a V6, automatic, two door, extra cab, bed liner, trailer hitch and manual windows (hard to find in this age of 4 door trucks). I finally found a 2007 Fl50 STXwith 13,000 miles on it in Wichita, Kansas. I have driven it 88,000 problem free-miles with many more to come. Nice ride! I am looking forward to warmer weather to put a new shine on it!
At some point, my daughter became enamored with the styling of old trucks and, as she said to me on more than one occasion, “Dad, I wish you had kept the old Ford truck.” She likes the 1965-66 style and last winter found one in Yucaipa, CA. “Old Yeller” proudly sits in her driveway now. I am looking forward to spending quality Daddy-Daughter time redoing the 1965 F100 with the help of LMC quality parts, of course!
