1988 Ford Ranger – Mike M.

I purchased this truck for my 13 year-old son because I wanted him to learn to drive with a manual transmission truck. I purchased the truck with a bad engine for $800. My initial plans were to replace the engine with a used one and repair other things, just to make it drivable.

After failed attempts to find a good used engine, I decided to rebuild the original engine myself. After completely rebuilding the engine, I started repairing/rebuilding other components. In the end, I had either rebuilt or repaired everything from the front to the rear so I figured why stop there, and started on body repair.

Besides LMC, there are not a lot of aftermarket parts available for generation 1 Rangers so local junkyards and LMC became my parts resources. Someday my plans from here are to install a 4” lift with bigger tires and wheels but for now, we will just drive it.

My son has already began to drive it around in a local school parking lot. He is a little rough with the clutch but is picking it up well.[lmc_story_gallery]
