1996 Chevy Suburban – Mike D.

Saved From the Crusher

After regrettably scrapping my baby (my ’94 K1500) after the transmission blew up for the second time, I needed another “tow vehicle.” My father-in-law does business with a local scrap yard and found this new gem, my ’96 Suburban. The lady that owned it before me had passed away and it was left in her son’s procession. After many attempts to “get it running,” he decided to let it go. My father-in-law towed this back to his house to see if he could get it going. After slapping a battery in it, it fired right up. Needless to say, I bought it. I paid $600 bucks for it and it’s now my new favorite truck. My kids and I have nicknamed it The Jolly Green Giant. It’s a typical 23 year old Midwestern truck: rotted quarters, rockers, and doors faded paint. In the future, I hope to be able to afford to restore it to its glory.
