1948 Chevy 3100 – Monte M.
My Grandparent’s 1948 Chevrolet Thriftmaster
My Grandparents, Carl and Mattie S, bought the pickup new from Rist Chevrolet in Covington, Oklahoma in 1948. It was used on their farm to haul everything from wheat, hay, barbed wire, fence posts and chicken eggs to Perry, Oklahoma to sell at the local feed store. The best part was us grandkids riding in the back of the pickup enjoying those dusty, dirt roads. I bought the pickup from my grandparents in 1975 when they moved from the farm. I was 24 years old and being newly married, the pickup was at the bottom of the honey-do list. Like any old vehicle, it needed new wiring, brakes, and the engine was starting to smoke. In the middle 70’s, parts weren’t as easy to find as they are today. The pickup sat for 44 years until November 2018, when I found an honest, reliable, restoration shop, Jeff Taft and Sean Phillips at J & J Restorations in Blanchard, Oklahoma. They finished the pickup in July 2019 and it’s better than new with the original color Seacrest Green. I’m now 69 years old and with the support of my wife, Barbara, and the expertise of Jeff and Sean and LMC Truck Parts they have made this old man’s dream come true.[lmc_story_gallery]
