1979 GMC K2500 – Greg P.

Bringing Back an Old Work Horse

I’d ordered this truck new in November of 1979 and received it in March of 1980.  I made it my plow truck.  I drove it for 26 years then used it till the frame was so bad I couldn’t trust it to plow my own drive.  I let it sit for nearly 10 years.  I just couldn’t part with it.  A friend of mine found a donor truck from Montana.  An old yellow 1978 chevy 3/4-ton ranch truck with a solid frame and rebuildable cab but with a stick shift unlike my automatic that I was used to.  So, in March of 2021 this year I proceeded to tear down both trucks and bring back my Ole Blue.  I did a frame off restoration, sand blasted the frame, treated the metal, put a nice satin black coating. rebuilt the original 350 cid with a high-rise intake and installed a mild cam.  I resealed the transfer case, then rebuilt the automatic.  In other words, I left no stone unturned.  Every component was either rebuilt or replaced.  The rest of the sheet metal was replaced, then painted a near factory blue with a lot more sparkle.  I got back a truck that has a lot of memories and history.  Even though it’s not the original except the drive train, it looks and drives like my Ole Blue.

To the young people out there… you’re never too old to get your dream back like myself.  I started this project right after I turned 69 and 8 months later my dream came true before I turn 70.  I even surprised myself.   Keep On Truckin’.
