1950 Chevy 3100 – Clint B.
This story is the adventure of me and my dad, Gary, and the deal we got from my uncle Charles and what it has came to be. My uncle sold his entire collection of 1947-1955 trucks and all of the parts that he had acquired over the years to my dad for a deal that could not be passed up. We went to his property to look over everything and was blown away. There were 24 trucks most full body, some partial, 1 panel, and enough extra parts to fill a 10×20 storage to the ceiling. Most lined up through the trees throughout the property and a were few scattered in the yard and they were the ones he tinkered with occasionally. The back half of his shop was stuffed with spare parts. The first truck that we pulled out, my uncle put new points in, worked on it for about an hour and we pulled it onto the trailer on its own power barely. Pulled a few more selling them over the next several months to fund the rebuild of my dad’s truck. My sister and I have each pulled one for future builds. Dad’s was priority and our main goal. Slowly working on it when we could we began to step out down in my dad’s shop. My dad’s brother Bill came down when he had a chance and put a lot of time into it as well. The truck is currently 80% finished with a rebuilt 235, new clutch, 12v wiring, brakes throughout, windows, seat re-done, rebuilt Guages, painted (interior, original frame and engine compartment), custom mounted a rear bumper with trailer hitch, the exterior was left patina coated with a mixture of linseed oil and mineral spirits, rebuilt steering, new wheels and tires, fuel tank and lines, replaced floor pans, cab corners and new bed wood and strips. I’m sure I’m forgetting some stuff blah, blah, blah.
My dad has always wanted to be able to drive an old classic truck in the local parade. I had his truck at my house rebuilding the bed and ordering wheels and tires. I had him thinking there was no way possible to have it ready for the parade. The Friday before the parade, I called him and asked him to bring his trailer to get his truck for the parade. Let me just say, that dude was excited. Lol. He showed up and the new spacers hadn’t came in yet so we went and ate lunch. While at lunch the spacers came in so we got home, put the new wheels and spacers on and got him loaded up. My sister and I had it planned already for him to be able to drive his truck and pull his old wooden john boat behind the truck in the parade. Since the parade he’s like a little kid with a new toy. There is still a lot left to finish but it’s just odds and ends. We’ll worry about that stuff when he’s not driving it around town.
