1964 Chevy C10 – Hunter D.
All because of Dad
Me and my dad we’re talking one day and I got to wondering what his first truck was so I asked him “hey dad, what was your first truck” and without skipping a beat he said a 1960 GMC 1000 fleet side. Me being about 13 I didn’t know what that was so I looked it up on my phone and was instantly mesmerized by the first generation Chevy/GMC C10’s so my next search was “1960-66 Chevy c10” on Facebook marketplace and then I found a 1964 Chevy short bed stepside C10 I showed it to him and he was skeptical so I started talking to the lady who had it listed and it was non running no gas tank no radiator 230 in-line 6 with a 3 on the tree column shift transmission. Eventually I got ol dad convinced to drive to Arkansas (we live in southwest Missouri) to look at it and when we got there I could tell that my dad saw memories flooding back of his first truck and after some haggling of the owner we finally decided on a price and loaded it up on the trailer and took her home. I was over excited to start working on this truck and learning because at this point in my life I had 0 mechanical experience. And we wrenched and torqued and carb cleaned and rebuilt out way to having this truck lookin decent and finally for the first drive I could see in my dads eyes that he saw himself 36 years ago in that truck seat
