My wife and I have been married for just over 30 years. We are both retired from the USAF. Over the years, we have gone to hundreds of car shows. I have always been a muscle car guy, my wife has always liked the fat fender trucks of the 40’s and 50’s. After retirement and finally settling down and putting down some roots, we decided to finally get the old truck she wanted. We looked at a lot of trucks at shows and online for sale and she couldn’t find the truck she wanted. A friend told me he had a truck for sale that was restored in the late 90’s. My wife saw it and fell in love with it. It was a bright red 1951 5 window 3100 short bed truck. It was mostly original, updated with a newer 250 six cylinder engine. We wanted a cruiser and a highway driver, so I updated to a S-10 frame, 5.3 liter and 4L60E transmission and 4 wheel disk brakes, bucket seats, consoles HVAC, electric wipers, and modern gauges and wiring. The body was in decent shape, so the paint was touched up and was good to go. I spent just over a year updating the truck with a lot of parts from LMC and a year after purchase, we drove it to the first car cruise. She has the truck she has longed for, for a long time and enjoys driving and riding in it.
