1987 Chevy C10 – Tom P.
I purchased this one in 2006 at the Turkey Run after moving to the Daytona area from NY. It had a fresh coat of paint and the rest was 100% original. Clean truck and fair price for that time at $4,000. Being my daily driver for the next 14 years and being beaten by the Florida sun, the truck was starting to show some serious illness. The original 305 was leaking from every gasket on the motor and the open 3.08’s hummed louder than a freight train. So, in Christmas 2020 my father in law had acquired a “built” 5.7 and the next day it was dropped in. We finished it up around 9pm and began our 40 mile drive back from his shop. My son called me only a few miles in and said the left bank was dumping water. Long story short, cracked head! So, after a lot of stops for water, I called Summit and ordered a HP31 TBI replacement. A few months after that, I made a deal for a ’92 Corvette 700r4 and had a local shop build it to handle a lot more HP than the HP31 could ever produce in hopes of one day LS swapping it. Then, it was a full carrier with 30 spline axles, a Yukon posi, and Richmond 3.73’s. Well, now she was scooting around nicely, but still looked like a pile of dung. So, the next step was finding a body shop that wasn’t painting with 14k gold and was able to get it done in a few months, not a few years. Polchies fabrication in town came through and the color choice was made. The final step was opening up the latest LMC catalog and checking all the boxes. I mean all the boxes LOL. Bumper to bumper, if it bolted, it got changed. I rebuilt the vent windows and headliner and installed the new dash, carpet, door panels, and found a set of buckets from a Mazda 3. Center console came out of an OBS with a fresh coat of paint. Vision torque wheels and Falken sneakers changed the look dramatically. I still have a western 4/6 drop kit to do, but that might have to wait until next winter because weekends are for cruising.
