I told my dad I wanted a ’67 – ’68 C10 and he found this one in 2016 for me out across a field next to a house he saw while he was at work. The truck originally belonged to this guy’s dad and he had passed away and left it to him. He was elderly as well and had no interest in restoring the truck so he sold it to us for $500. We towed it home, changed the fluids, cleaned out the tank, threw in some new plugs and points and she fired right up. She didn’t even smoke. I think they just parked it out across the field or something. It sat at my parents’ house in Arkansas for a few years until I finally managed to save a little money and find some time to run down and do some work on her. September 2020, I put in a 2/4 lowering kit from McGaughy’s and did a front disk brake conversion with it and also a 5 lug axle swap. January 2021, my dad helped me pull the motor to have it gone through and freshened up. July 2021, we got the motor back and dropped it back in. It wasn’t until May 2023 though that I finally got somebody started on the much needed bodywork. My uncle who lives in Grand Prairie, TX had a friend who did paint and bodywork on the side and he said he would take it on for me. My original plan was only to replace the floor and rockers but my dad said I should go on and let him “get it right.” Since the cab was off the frame, it only made sense to replace the rotted out firewall and cab corners too. Fast forward to November 2023, I went back down to TX to pick up my girl. I’ve been working on the interior and got my vintage air system installed beginning of 2024 and have started enjoying driving and road-testing. I look forward to enjoying many years to come.
