I bought my truck basically because it was almost exactly what I was looking for. It had the short fleetside box, the extended cab, was a V6 standard and came with a canopy. It had the added feature of being a rare Kodiak Edition and the price was right. Not only that but it was a half ton two wheel drive, not four. I’d been looking for about two years for this combination and had almost given up on finding it. But of course there had to be a downside. The windshield was badly cracked, the hood had small dents and big scratches as if a tree had fallen on it. One front fender was dinged on the top edge in a couple of places, both front fenders had rusted out in the bottom ends, the plastic grille panel had a broken mounting point, one window winder knob was broken and a small amount of the usual extended cab bottom rust on one side. I could go on but those were the most visible problems. The mileage was on the high side at about 25000 kilometres but I suspected those were mostly highway kilos since I found the truck in a fairly small town. And as of this writing, it still starts and runs as good as a truck ever could except for some lifter noise when cold.
So far as I know, the Kodiak model was a dealer option offered only by the dealership which originally sold this truck, Wheaton GM on Vancouver Island. The options for winter driving included a limited slip differential, heavy duty alternator and heater as well as a block heater. I’d like to find more information about the Kodiak model though, if anyone knows anything.
Presently, from the front at least, the truck looks as good as new with the addition of new fenders, grille, bumper and etc. Maybe it’s not show quality but it’s getting there.
