1978 Ford F100 – David B.

I was still in college barely making my way financially, but I had to have this truck. After all, I wanted to go to cruise nights, car shows, and the like. I am old enough to remember cruising on Saturday nights with friends, and I am also old enough to remember back then cool trucks equaled cool chicks. I was a single young man at the time and I was all about it!

I am the original owner of my 1978 F100, Style side, Short Bed truck, I ordered it with the color I wanted, and a few other upgrades, It took six weeks to build and to deliver to Don Knott Ford in Carson, California. It had a 302 CID engine, four speed transmission, 9” rear-end. I was ecstatic!

My new truck became a daily driver from 1978-1982. In mid-1982 it was tucked away safely in the garage and only came out for recreation such as car shows, river trips and the like.

Let me fast-forward to 2022. The days of cruisin’ and prowlin’ were long over. I was settled in with my wife, retired and looking to make it more comfortable and add a few more modern comforts. I was excited to get started!

So, I lowered it 6”, put in an automatic overdrive transmission, air-conditioning, fuel injection, and custom digital gauges, not to mention custom paint touches, such as the mural and stripes. (The orange paint is all original factory paint.) So now, as a young 70 years old, I no longer need it as a daily driver, but everywhere I drive it I get an offer to buy. People are extremely complementary. I am just as happy with this truck as the same day I bought it. Now, however, It is way more comfortable, cool and easy to climb in to!
