1950 Ford F1 -Eric S.
My wallet was crying on Facebook Marketplace and that’s when I saw it – a 1950 Ford F1 that would change everything. Late one night, sipping on a cold one at the local pub, I found this gem, almost entirely original and a whopping 3 hours away in Logan, Ohio. The next morning, I packed up and towed the trusty U-Haul, ready to make it happen with my dad along for the journey. At the shop, which was gigantic compared to the house, an elderly man in his late 80’s welcomed us, surrounded by his collection of twenty-some cars. With a simple key handover, our adventure began – sputtering down the block before coming to a dead stop. A quick phone call and a bit of fuel later, we were back on track. After a handshake and agreeing on a price, we drove off into the unknown with a 1950 F1 that had no gas gauge, questionable brakes and a myriad of secrets. It’s been three years and we’ve learned someone had ‘beautified’ it with deck stain. It’s had new brakes, fuel lines and more, making it somewhat reliable. We’ve had our share of adventures, including six tow-truck welcomes from AAA and starring in a movie written by the mastermind behind Rudy and Hoosiers last year. We’ve spent countless hours wet sanding the homemade patina off and even more hours cruising the streets of America’s Crossroads and Hoosier State, Indiana. We have no plans to paint, restore or make it a show queen. It took 76 years to age this fine wine of a truck and we intend to honor that.
