1987 Chevrolet K10 – Joe W.

The truck originally belonged to my grandfather who bought it new in 1987. From what I recall he ordered it specifically to the specs he wanted so it could haul loads and do work he needed done. Well grandpa passed away ten years ago, this July 15th. The truck was used heavy as grandpa used it to load cedar logs out of the woods, he had a winch system that was mounted in the bed that allowed him to raise up and swing the logs into the bed of the truck. He used Old Blue to take his boat to the light house and fish for red fish. When he passed away, my father took it to his property and used it around the property as a old work truck. It developed rust holes in the top of the cab and under the fenders from all the years around the salt air at the light house. Finally got to a point that we either restored it or scrapped it. Dad and I decided to restore Old Blue and keep it in the family. The engine is still the original motor “305” and transmission. We did an up grade to the front the rear axles to 3/4 ton vs the 1/2 ton that was on it. The original axels had some issues from the salt water and corrosion. We cleaned and treated the frame, put it on 35″ wheels and went the bullet hole style wheels for the proper time period. Kept the truck the original color, and replaced the front fenders, bumpers and tailgate. Did the spray in-liner on the bed and cut out the cab corner, pans and replaced them. Old Blue has retired to just Sunday drives, maybe a car show or two and a life of ease vs working like it did for so many years.
