1948 Chevy-John H.

Bought it in 1980 from the grandson of the farmer who bought it new in 48. Since the original 235 it had a Ford 289 hp, a well-built Chevy 350, and now runs a stock Chevy 283 with 305 heads. I changed the original front suspension with a Pinto in 96, but replaced it with a 75 Nova front clip in 99 when I installed the well-built 350. I was in WA State when gas hit $3.50 a gallon so I installed the 283. She is currently running a TR700R4 with 4:56 gears in the 74 Nova rear end with a reworked Quadra jet. Since I bought her in 1980 she’s been coast to coast 4 times and border to border twice. Am currently in Dallas with a small camper in tow, and planning to come visit you in KC on my way home to St Louis….

John bought the truck in Williamsburg, Virginia in 1980 from the grandson of the farmer that purchased the truck new.
Since the original 235 inline six cylinder, the truck has had a Ford 289, a well built Chevy 350 and is now running a stock Chevy 283 V8 with 305 heads. John switched from the 350 to the 283 while living in Washington State with gas price around $3.50 a gallon.
The truck is currently running a TR700R4 with 4:56 gears in a 1974 Nova rear end. The 283 is also mated to a reworked Quadrajet.
John changed out the original front suspension with a setup from a Pinto in 1996 and has since replaced that with a 1975 Nova front end in 1999. The paint refresh from the year 2000 is now starting to fade and peel, so John has decided to go with more of a rat rod look.
Since buying the truck in 1980, she and John (26 year Navy Veteran) have been coast to coast 4 times and border to border twice. Always driven, never trailered. The only part of the US border that John and the truck have not traveled is from Washington, D.C. to Maine and from Maine to Chicago. John and his truck has also traveled almost all of Route 66 from St. Louis to LA. Recently they just completed a two month trip around Texas towing the teardrop camper.
