1987 Dodge D100 – James P.
I had been looking for a good used truck for many years that I could afford. I came across a 1 owner with 60,000 miles on it for 3K. I went and looked at it and to my surprise, it was in really good condition. It needs work. I had to replace the window seals and sweeps, A/C blower control unit, and the antennae. And I still have lots to do. I can only work on it as I have money to do it. I have to replace the door latch on the driver side, replace all the rotted and brittle vacuum hoses and fuel lines, exhaust manifold gaskets – which I may go to headers and dual exhaust depending on what I can afford. I also need to replace plugs, points, distributor, wires, coil, egr, pcv, rebuild carb, flush radiator, change oil, transmission fluid flush & filter, differential fluid needs replacing. After all of that, perhaps a trip to Maaco for fresh paint. I am going to take it in steps and as I have the money, it may take me a year to get it all done, but I know that when it is done, it will be something I can be proud of. My youngest daughter (17) is already asking for it. I hope to get her to take interest and teach her how it all works and get her under the hood. I hope it doesn’t take me a year as I would like her driving it to school, I never had a father to give me a vehicle, so this would make me proud to do it for her.
