1957 Chevy 3100 – Scott S.
Back in 1979 two friends and I went to Hawaii to backpack around and explore the islands. While in Maui we met a captain of a sailboat looking for a crew. Long story short, we crewed for him. During the calms, we had a lot of time to talk. Jeff and I started dreaming of buying an old truck and putting port holes in it. Yes, stupid but we were still teenagers. Once we got home, Jeff found us a 1957 long bed and we bought it together for $400. The previous owner told us that his son had put a 58 frontend on it and asked if we wanted the original. Well, we didn’t see any reason for extra hardware, so it has a 58 frontend on it. We started sanding it and then lost interest. I moved and bought Jeff out of his 1/2 and used it for a general-purpose pickup for years. It sat for too long and then needed a carburetor rebuild. Needless to say, life got too busy and there it sat. Now 46 years later, I’m finally starting to really work on it. It has been garaged for the last 20 years and is not in terrible shape but will be a long project that I’m looking forward to. So, the rebuild process is just starting. I was able to build a shop last year with the main goal of working on the truck in my retirement. Jeff came to visit recently and so this picture is after we got started ripping into it in preparation to pull the engine.
